Author Topic: Transferring XP files to a Windows 7 computer  (Read 461 times)

As I have previously said, my computer has died, however the hard drive is still working. The one that died was running Windows XP. So I'm wondering; is it possible to transfer files from an XP hard drive to a Windows 7 computer?

XP files to a Windows 7 computer? Of course it is, Windows 7 isn't some weird alien OS with custom file types. :P

Either insert the hard drive from the busted computer into your new one (you'll have no Windows 7 obviously but you can get the files off it) or better yet buy one of those converters where you can put in your computer hard drive and channel it through USB.

My dad knows a computer expert and he's rebuilding the old hard drive into an external hard drive, so I can transfer the files via USB. But I thought that since the XP interface and the files look different from Windows 7's interface, I thought that XP stuff wouldn't be compatible with 7.

Holy crap, this made me laugh out loud.

why

if it is because it isn't right, you should know that I'm not a computer expert

Sorry, but it's funny! :D

I hope your dad is either getting charged nothing or just $15. For $12 you can buy a cheap external enclosure that your hard drive just pops into, and then you can plug it into your new computer like an external HD.

The computer expert is making the hard drive work like an external, and I'm pretty sure he's doing it for free.
