Author Topic: My Computer Decided it Doesn't Like Operating Systems.  (Read 716 times)

It started off when I decided I wanted to install Kubuntu alongside Windows with the installer. It finished and I rebooted, but after it shows the BIOS and info and stuff, it just simply goes black. I tried my Windows repair disk, that failed, tried manually doing the commands that restores the bootloader, which has always worked for me, but didn't, it just stays black.

I tried re-installing Windows 7 but now I get something like "Boot from CD/DVD... DISK FAILURE, PLEASE INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER"
I got desperate and broke out the Windows 95 disk, which wouldn't even boot, it just remains black. I cannot boot from Ubuntu 9.10, 11.04, 8.04, or any other distro of Linux properly, it just stays black after I select "Install Ubuntu" or the other option to use the live CD.
I donno what to do. Help me Blockland Forums.

Open the BIOS settings and look around at the SATA/IDE configuration, if it says nothing is there, look around for an option to make it re-configure itself.

wipe everything?
Don't do this, it's not a problem with the OS, it's a problem with the BIOS/CMOS settings.
Unless he means clean everything, but that won't solve much.

I meant like take your harddrive, and completly wipe it, empty, nothing, zip, zilch
But you're right, BIOS isn't affected by that

If you need anything off the hard drive, I suggest you chuck it in another computer and get all that info, then reformat and install 7.

I don't care if I wipe everything. I just recently built this PC, there isn't much on it. But I don't think the hard drive is the problem, the computer simply won't let me boot to ANYTHING. I can't even boot to G-parted to format my hard drive. :c

Please read the OP more thoroughly, please.

Steve, when the computer loads the BIOS image, open the BIOS settings (the key to enter is usually F2.) Then do what I stated before.

I presumed he was going to use the format function on the 7 disk, and couldn't get to that stage.

Do you have any other hard drives you can try? This can help narrow the problem down. A new hard drive and a BIOS flash would make a clean slate if just the hard drive didn't work.

Chances are it could very well be the HDD if you can't get it to load from a CD-ROM/DVD-ROM, I've had the error myself.

Thank you, I can boot again. I owe you one.
