My best guess is she is referring to one of the great fires that burned a national library/archives, i can remember vaguely the story of a giant one (which would be the most likely cause) which burnt stufftonnes of archives and has been quoted as lost history.
Though i can't remember where/when you would have to find it yourself, assuming i am correct that is.
