Author Topic: Upgrading Computer  (Read 642 times)

I'm not updating it to play games like Crysis and MW2, I'm just updating it to maybe what a gaming computer would be in about 2005/2006 and about that time. So, I don't know if it's a good idea or not, because it's a old computer.

Spec: (copy pasted from another topic)

Compaq Presario S600NX (ACPI Uniprocessor PC)
2 HDDs (WDC WD4003EB-11CPF0)
C: 16.5 GB of 32.1 GB left
D: 2.35 GB of 5.14 GB left (Drive is for music)
Graphics : Intel 82845G Chipset (Integrated)
Windows XP Home 2003 w/ System Pack 3
Intel Celeron CPU running at 2.70 GHz
790mb of ram
:Hansol CRT running in 1280 x 960 - 32 bit
Logitech K120 Keyboard
Lexma Optical Mouse
CD-Rom Drive (SNCL Q301Q341QN4 SCSI CdRom Device - I think this is a virtual drive)
DVD Drive (HL-DT-ST DVD-Ram GH22NP20)
Intel 82801DB Ultra ATA Storage Controller - 24CB
Primary and Secondary IDE Channels
Lucent Win Modem
Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI (Not connected to internet)

So, I'm wanting to be able to play games like CS:S and BF2 at 30 - 60 FPS without having to use custom configurations. It shouldn't be a heavy upgrade, as my computer is from that time.
Find me parts that I can use in this computer. Stay as cheap as possible. I don't need a new OS (XP) because I'm fine with it. I just need to upgrade the parts.

Damn man, I have the Intel 82845G chipset for my 2000 computer.

Yeah.
My card isn't supported by Terraria, and I had to use custom .dlls to run it, and I get like, 5 fps. :c
You know it's bad.

Not as bad as mine...

RAM: 712 Mbs
CPU: Intel Pentium 4 3.06 Ghz
GPU: Nvidia GeForce 6200
1 HDD
A: 8.78 GB out of 18.6 GB

Windows XP home

I had a Nvida TNT, Win2000, and about 256mb ram 1 year ago. :c

DEAR GOD

Your gonna need a whole new PC, integrated is a rpoblem here

but not as bad as my old one...

RAM: 1GB
CPU: Intel Pentium 4 3.06GHZ (brofist for sunglasses)
GPU: ATI Radeon Xpress 200
HDD: 75GB
Windows XP Prof.
CD-ROM Drive

Actually that was pretty nice, it lasted 6 years.

I really just need more Ram, a new card, and a new CPU, but I don't know. That's what I think.

To get  all that stuff you need a new motherboard and probably a better psu and then to get proper ventilation a new case. So thats all the parts of a computer

One more GB of ram (or 1 total) and you should be good enough to play most non-high end games...That's not bad.

It's going to be close to impossible to find parts for that computer. You are gonna have to spend 500 bucks on a new one.

Any idea what socket your motherboard is, and what expansion slots you have for a video card?

hell it's took me $1000 for a cooling-effiecent PC, without the graphics card but alot of specs, add another $200 to replace the GT 430

I still have it.
