Nikon d3100 external mic?

I know that the Nikon d3100 doesn't have a plug in for an external mic, but is there any possible way to make one work?

Unless there's some glitchy hardware/software hack that I'm not aware of to get a mic to work through another jack that I'm not aware of, I seriously doubt it.

The D3100 wasn't made for the type of movies you'd need an external mic to make.
