That speaker is no longer there, so I want it to sit in front of me.

The 3.5 MM jack is on top of the tower.

Don't you mean 3mm? I thought that 3.5mm was an Amplifier jack.

yeah, It might work, but I recommend getting something with a cord, just in case.
