Author Topic: Should I upgrade to 64-bit Windows XP or Windows 7?  (Read 879 times)

If I'm able to at the end of the month, I'm going to install a 64-bit OS for my computer, as I wish to ditch 32-bit Windows XP.
I was just wondering if I should lose a bit of functionality (functionality I scarcely use, but at times is still very useful,) and install Windows 7, or keep the functionality and install 64-bit XP.
I have checked, and all the programs I care about run on 64-bit OSes.
So, keep XP until 2014, or ditch it, and go 7?

7-11 is a nice place to buy condoms at

I'm confused where 64-bit would be useful, do you have more than 4GB of ram? If so XP, if not then there is no difference for you in getting 64-bit.

x64 XP is absolute crap.

Go for Windows 7 x64.

Also, almost all programs run on x64 Windows without any compatibility issues.  Only old programs will have issues.

With Xp you would be running circles around 7.
7 is most up to date and all but with xp you wont be using much ram on stuff.

2011/2012 Computer + downgrade to XP = Super Computer

Edit : Oh and BTW there is a version of Direct X 10 for XP, Im running it.

Actually, Shadow, they both use the same amount, it's just that Vista and greater allocates the ram.

Windows XP 64-bit doesn't even work.

don't listen to this guy.

Alright, I'll be going with Windows 7 at the end of the month.
I'll install XP on a VM if I seriously need to run old applications.
