The difficulty I am having is I can have so much more out of making this game 3D instead of 2D but it would take me indefinately longer to do so. I'm sorry I'm not providing the examples I promised yet, as I still haven't made up my mind on which route to go. IF I do 3D its less likely I will do java and more likely I will use unity or c#, though I don't know much about unity. I will look into that I suppose as well.

Do a 2D game so we all have a solid example of your talents, as well as a simple, yet complete game, that can be completed faster.

2D is so incredibly limited.

I love Dragon Warrior :(
...and Super Mario :(
......and...... oh c'mon, there are lots of good 2D games! It'll at least show creativity.

Dude, just use 2.5D, for example: Castle Crashers, Battleheart for iPhone, ZombieVille USA for iPhone.
