Author Topic: Web Browsing Suddenly Slow?  (Read 511 times)

Ok, so about a few days ago, when browsing the internet, it takes awhile for webpages to load, along with other stuff (haven't noticed any difference when not on the internet). This is pissing me off, since it takes a bit longer on these forums, but if it's something like uploading a photo somewhere, it takes forever. I didn't install anything, I have a bunch of anti-virus/anti-malware, so I'm pretty sure it's not that. I've also unplugged and plugged in my router. I noticed something, though: Usually, above where it says Local Area Connection, (when I click control panel and then network connections) there's usually something that says Internet Connection. Now, it showed it while I was typing this, but it was disabled. I tried enabling to no avail, and for it to just disappear moments later. I really need help with this connection.

If it helps, my connection on my Xbox Live is normal. I have a linksys router and a motorola modem.

Have you installed any new browser extensions recently?

Have you installed any new browser extensions recently?

my father downloaded yahoo messenger and it came with a toolbar, it started acting slow though maybe awhile after that, maybe that is the problem, though ti was working fine for awhile after it was downloaded.

Disable the toolbar (or remove it, though you can reinstall it if your father is that attached to it) and see if the performance changes.

it seems as though he uninstalled it, my default removal software and other my uninstall software i have downloaded doesn't detect it, but the toolbar is still at the top of firefox
i disabled it but now i can't find it again, and when i disabled it, there was still the word "yahoo" at the top, where bookmarks and stuff are. also, when i disabled it, there was no uninstall option.

I don't know what to tell you, but I do know I want to slap yo daddy for installing a toolbar.

It's a pain when this happens but you're probably going to have to go through the registry and lots of directories trying to uninstall the toolbar manually. That's how sneaky Toolbars are and also Ask search engine are.

Use the about:config page in Firefox first, and get rid of all traces of anything that relates to the toolbar. (Don't delete it all, only delete ones that were third party created. If one is an original command, say searchBarAction "Yahoo Search", change it to "Google Search" or similar. Just an example)
