its only possible if the laptop;

a: has an express card port. there are usb options peope have fiddled with, but i dont think usb2.0 has quite the bandwidth that a pci2.0 x16 lanes can reach.

b: that express card port can run at least 8, but preferably 16 lanes. hardwares on the laptop can be disabled (and a special software needed) to reallocate lanes on a bridge.

Even USB 3.0 can't reach speeds of PCI-E 2.0 slots.

How do I know if my laptop will support this?

your comp can run a card by at least x1
i wouldnt know how much higher you could get it without physically seeing the comp. some things may or may not be able to be moved around.

you gotta find out your motherboard's pci-e controller setup.
find out what bridge the express card is on, and what lanes it shares with what other hardware upon it.

i intended to cram this whole mess into an abandoned tower. or buy a mini-case with a nifty handle.


bump; ive managed to overclock the card by 77% though i think after about 40% i bottlenecked out to my cpu. so bleh on that
its quite easy with dedicated power and virtually no heat lol
