How do I enable custom crosshairs?

I've made my own crosshair and I don't know how to put it in the game.

It's transparent.
It's .PNG
It's the correct size.

I put it in BLOCKLANDFOLDER/base/client/ui/crossHair.png and replace it, but when I start the game it erases the custon crosshair and puts in the default one.

Anyway to bypass that?
