pretty much all the ones i've seen in real life are red and brick. red is how most people portray a fire station

fire trucks are also red

i believe they are red to symbolize fire. this lets people know it's a fire truck or a fire station - emergency service

There's no rules on the color for a fire station.  LEGO universally portrays it as red, but most real fire stations aren't all that decorated.  They're basically just a fancy warehouse for storing the trucks and firefighting equipment (for volunteer fire companies) and a kind of barracks-lite setup (for paid fire companies where the firefighters stay at the station in shifts).

As an aside, there are also no actual rules saying a fire truck has to be red, either- it's just traditional.  There's also a yellow-green color that's pretty commonly used, but I've also seen trucks with gradients from red to black, some white trucks, and even a blue truck here and there.  The red and yellow-green trucks are just the most common because they're generally the most visible to other drivers.

Chicago uses alot of black on their new rigs :)

firetruckist all the firetrucks around here are a yellowish green color

Firetrucks are any color, but the 'STERIOTYPICAL' Firestation is red yes.
We have yellow trucks, red trucks, as long as the truck is visible.

Greenish yellow is used for airports.  I've got some buddies at that station

this is one of the older ones our station uses

You should probably try incorporating lots of red on the exterior. Fire stations are usually red, which is what distinguishes it from any other normal building.
