Author Topic: Reinstalling Skype on an iPhone with iOS 4.2.1  (Read 5879 times)

The App Store does not provide Skype for this version, and as such Skype can not be reinstalled. I want to know if there is some workaround which could allow Skype to be reinstalled.

Information found:
This is a common problem.
The solution here doesn't work.

I do not own an iPhone. They don't restrict updating the iOS to a full number up version?

No they don't.  And what does not having an iPhone have anything to do with it?

what? lol
iOS 5 is free
1. update the iPhone to 5.1
2. install skype
3. you are done

if you mean that you have an outdated iPhone, that doesn't matter
I have an iPhone 4 with 5.1, and you can update even an iPhone 3 to 5.1

I wasn't sure because I know sometimes you can't simply place an OS onto a device. For example, most XP computers couldn't simply get Windows 7... At least, from what I remember hearing.

How do you upgrade the iPhone? There's just a menu in Settings or something that says "Update iOS?"

well um
uh
I don't know, actually
there isn't a button for it in Settings until you update (however ironic that may be)

oh, connect the iPhone to your computer, and iTunes will show you it all

What if it's jailbroken?
then update it and jailbreak it again

Would this work now? The page is two years old. I'm concerned that the Restore method where it backs up your data might be an easy way for Apple or other things to brick the iPhone nowadays.

just try to update it
I don't think you'll need to jailfix (what) it to update it

I'd rather not risk bricking someone's iPhone. Anyone know for sure?

it's not going to brick their phone; jailbreaking is legal and I'm pretty sure Apple doesn't gaf, but go ahead with whatever it is you're going I guess
