Author Topic: I just got a SWEET new laptop!  (Read 2032 times)

Switchable graphics, its usually associated with certain high end laptops.

One GPU is run during tasks that don't require a heavy graphics card. In this case the Intel HD would be running during web browsing, playing music, writing documents, you get the idea.

While gaming the computer (usually automatically) will switch to the Nvidia card.

The reason is for better power management. A laptop would burn more battery power supporting a heavy graphics card all the time, so it switches between one that uses minimal power but has crappier performance.

Downside is they are apparently a bitch to get driver updates for.

Correct, but some dumb PCs dont automatically switch and set the Intel HD as default. My friend had a Dell XPS, he had no idea he had an nvidia gpu, I told him to rigt click on the desktop and then he saw it said "Nvidia Control Panel" then from there you need to select an option like use high performance gpu or somethig. I think the OP may have to so the same.

forget that must have been a dream. I wish I could find a hidden high powered GPU in my computer lol.

Nah, my laptop does pretty good for moderate gaming so I'm pretty happy.

Are you a hobo?

??

i'm just saying that he paid more than it's worth

The original price was $650. I got it $200 off.

why does one need two GPUs

Because Intels are stuff and he needs a backup.

the intel is a backup lol

Nice. It's pretty much as good as my desktop.

I have a really old laptop with a broken hinge. But painis bless, it still runs TF2 perfect.

This is about equal to my new laptop. Anyway, for me (on NVidia for the record) the auto-switch only works for AAA games that are a few years old, otherwise you have to add the games manually (to the switch list).
