Author Topic: Other file formats other than .DTS  (Read 364 times)

.DTS is getting pretty old, eventually 3D programs wont have support for them, and newer versions of Windows are going to not allow us to use it anymore. Would it be possible to add in a new format file like .obj or something without having to recode a ton of stuff? (I'm just wondering)

To my knowledge, Torque is pretty much hardcoded to work with DTS only. Without rewriting BL on a newer version of Torque or perhaps on another engine altogether, that's not gonna happen.

How exactly will Windows prevent videogames from interpreting their files? Are you drunk? You know how old some games are that run on modern Windows operating systems? The operating system doesn't count in almost all cases...

For example, Windows 95 games cant run on Windows 2000 because it is NT based. Im saying in terms of that, im not sure what the NT does but im guessing its something that its built on, maybe Windows someday will change that again, making the old Blender not work

Building a videogame based on an engine using a primitive file format /=/ Building a videogame based off of a primitive operating system.

I imagine that someone would make a native (the main format it'd work with is .DTS) .DTS modeler that could do playertypes, but it probably wouldn't happen. Maybe when I get older, I'll program one.

This post makes no sense.

Blender, Milkshape 3d, and Maya can all export to .DTS

What are you proposing that is new?

DTS is primitive, while all of those programs have features that DTS can not support.
