Need to create a new backup for computer.

So my dad asked me to back up the system on our harddrive.
We already have a partition and it's filled with system files(I think).


So, how would I create a replacement backup, that would go on D:?
Any and all help is appreciated.

I've already tried doing it on DVD-R's, but it fills a 4 gig on up at ~25% complete, and then doesn't ask me to put in another. Really annoying.
