Author Topic: Ubuntu boot problems.  (Read 462 times)

You guys are less intimidating then the Ubuntu forum so I was wondering if someone knows how to fix this:

I installed Ubuntu with zero problems (To my knowledge) with the duel boot setting but when I boot my computer up I can't choose Ubuntu it just jumps into Windows. Any easy fix? I Googled it but couldn't find anything.

hold f8 while booting then there should be an option to change what os you boot

It's still using the Windows 7 bootloader. Try installing it through Wubi.

Brought me to the advanced boot menu but it didn't appear to have anything only stuff to fix a broken computer.

Oh. I'm more used to XP as I only got my computer a few weeks ago.

i don't think soukuw cares

It's using the Windows bootloader still. Therefore it wasn't replaced with the Ubuntu GRUB bootloader. The Windows bootloader cannot detect the file format that Ubuntu uses so that's why it doesn't show up. Google around a bit and see if there's a way to replace it with GRUB.

12:04 AM - Soukuw: I can get to the advanced boot menu it just doesn't have anything to swap OS's
12:05 AM - TehCactus: is there anything on your hdd implying that ubuntu was installed
12:05 AM - TehCactus: let me see where ubuntu installs to
12:05 AM - Soukuw: No I figured that out just after I was about to tell you, there is no reason it shouldn't have installed but it appears to have forgeted up
12:05 AM - TehCactus: okay
12:05 AM - TehCactus: did you partition your hdd?
12:07 AM - Soukuw: I put the disk in rebooted pressed f12 chose the disk ran the installer then it asked me to slide a little bar or use the advanced partition I just clicked next so I could have a little bit of space on the partion and figured I could size it up later if needed
12:07 AM - TehCactus: okay
12:07 AM - TehCactus: how many hard drives are in your computer folder in windows 7
12:08 AM - Soukuw: I have one real hard drive and one recovery (Which is a partion)
12:08 AM - TehCactus: ok
12:08 AM - TehCactus: well
12:08 AM - TehCactus: then reinstall ubuntu
