Author Topic: are my headphones broken?  (Read 508 times)

okay, so all of today my headphones haven't been working. what happens is, i listen to something(on itunes, youtube, tumblr, anything) and instead of hearing it normally it's super choppy. like most of the time it's silent, and then every few seconds i hear a very short part of the sound. is there something obvious i'm missing that i can easily fix, or are my headphones completely busted? helpful answers only, please.

EDIT: also, i'm using USB headphones, and the only other ones i have are kind of smashed up

have you tried using different headphones in the same audio jack? mabye the audio jack is malfunctioning.

try rebooting your computer, there could be a program/process sending zillions of sound start/stop requests to the headphones because it doesn't like something

What brand are they? Not sure it matters, but I've had a couple pairs of Skullcandy buds do the same thing to me. Not sure if it was just a coincidence, or if it's the brand or whatever.

try using them on a different computer

Right click on the windows sound icon, select playback devices, and right click on your headset and set it as the default device.

i tried logging out and then back into the computer but that didn't do anything

i don't have a different computer to use them on

Right click on the windows sound icon, select playback devices, and right click on your headset and set it as the default device.
i don't have windows, but i have the headphones set as the default thing i think

not relogging
completely restart the computer

leave it off for a few minutes if possible, something might be overheating?

This fixed it for me once

Headphones were crackling like balls
Restarted pc and it fixed it.

Is it OS X, and if so, is it a Hackintosh?

restarting seemed to have fixed it. that was weird
