Author Topic: What's with my Milkshape 3D?  (Read 2745 times)

For some reason the shapes Plane and Cylinder turn out completely black, move this topic if its in the wrong section

normally i see that happen when i turn something inside out by accident

Well, when i was making my weapon, it was fine, but when i closed it and opened it back up, it wasn't normal anymore

Well...select all faces and hit "Reverse Vertex Order". That should fix it.

If it is backwards. MS3D is very glitchy with materials lately, I hope they fix it soon.

theres nothing wrong with my milkshape

Try this:

1. First, right click in the 3D perspective area and uncheck 'Draw Backfaces'.
2. Then select all faces / vertices of the object you're having a problem with.
3. Then click the 'Vertex' menu and choose 'Unweld'.
4. Then click the 'Auto Smooth' check box under the 'Groups' tab.
5. Click the 'Vertex' menu again and choose 'Weld Together'.
6. Now click the 'Vertex' menu and choose 'Unweld'.
7. Uncheck the 'Auto Smooth' box under the 'Groups' tab.
8. Click the 'Vertex' menu and choose 'Weld Together'.
9. Go to Tools -> Tile Texture Mapper and click OK in the box that appears.

Note: You can omit steps 6-9 when making a model you don't want flat-shaded.

Whoa, Trader, your way didn't work, but my way did!

1. I check 'Auto Smooth' in the Groups tab on the panel on the left/right
2. I cerate a cylinder and BOOM! It's fine

Anything I post regarding MilkShape I test personally.  If it didn't work for you, you're doing it wrong or you're not using the same version.

Ok you can't say "YOUR DOIN IT WRONG" when some one is using the latest version and it doesn't make sense.

Well, software is software: pre-programmed instructions.  I have the latest version.  I'm not going to deny that MilkShape has some oddities about displaying materials / shading, but it works fine for me.  So, if I can produce the same results time after time on different models, anyone not able to do so must be doing it wrong (or have a messed up computer / software install).
