ok well it seems like the strike came through the ground since there was only one bolt that was near enough to us to get through the ground to blow up the pump controls
we lost 2 network cards, a modem, a damaged router, 2 destroyed satellite receivers and possibly a damaged satellite dish, a blown TV motherboard, a blown garage motor, and a sprinkler control panel which actually threw the cover 30 feet away, singed all the wires off, and caught fire at some point
somehow the well itself still works if you jam the circuits themselves closed
the sprinkler pump obviously took the brunt of the damage, since it was the only thing that took serious damage that wasn't on the surge protector if it was coming from ground, and everything else in the house that was damaged was on a network or shared a conduit at some point with other networks that caused the interior damage
i can't imagine how much damage we would've had if we didn't have the surge protectors on the electrical breakers themselves
