Author Topic: Where have all the dogfights gone?  (Read 1352 times)

If you have ever seriously played a dogfight you will find that FPS is an important issue. Before terrain was removed, all you had to do was use a good terrain map and add some simple bases. Nowadays, everything has to be made out of bricks, and this severely hurts the FPS (take heed's TDM as an example).

People are too lazy to build their terrains.

Back then someone would just build a couple of basses and forts, spawn a couple of vehicles and guns and call it a dogfight, now they are too lazy to build the terrain.

i'd make a dogfight if the planes and weapons weren't so ass, i don't like having to hold a rocket launcher while in a plane
planes are also annoying to hit with most weapons

Space dogfight with two ships wouldn't need all that terrain, just some medium-size ships.

Hey I've been working on one of those for a while, but interest seems kinda low.

Based on star wars battlefront

Its the time it takes to build a massive scale terrain map whereas before you could just load up a map in 2 seconds. Too much effort...
cough perlin noise

where have all the dogfights gone?

long time passing

where have all the dogfights gone?

long time ago....

in all seriousness its the terrain issues. what we need now is a carrier-based dogfight with the use of ship vehicles, islands, and proper distancing so people don't just run over to the carrier and spawnkill, nor having them too far apart so the ships are practically useless.

what I'm thinking is using Slayer's Territory system with five points, one on each carrier and two small islands, then one on a large central mountainous/clifflike island. First team to hold three points for 2 minutes win.

Kinda like Battlefield 3's Rush, or Conquest? Where you have to capture bases to get more opportunities, or to advance forward? Sounds pretty cool.

you know i'm really okay with this development. maybe we'll get smaller-scale TDMs that don't rely on the 'every location is 30 miles apart in order to break flow' schtick
I like this right here. I hate traveling to the enemy base for 5 minutes and then get myself killed before even shooting a bullet. Darn.
