Author Topic: The school forgot to update itself - An interesting article  (Read 381 times)

I just found this article "The school forgot to update itself" on the website of Helsingin Sanomat, the largest newspaper in Finland. I think it is very interesting and agree on most points made in the article. It talks about how the schooling system in Finland, and I guess the entire world, is outdated and we should consider new alternatives.

Google Translate isn't perfect but you get the core ideas:

Cool, also I am from Finland, I cant check the article because im on phone. Ill check it later.

I thought our school system in the US was outdated. You go to school pretty much to learn the same stuff every year or if you are deemed smarter you are sent to a higher level thinking class.  Then when you get out of school you have a piece of paper that alows you to earn a few more dollars than a guy who dropped out.  We need something that spits out something to fit the digital age since our factories are mostly gone and the easy to do by physically demanding jobs are slowly disappearing.  We need system that is better than "learn the same math, history, english, science every year get a fancy piece of paper then go to this place called college where you pay money for classes you don't want to take or relate to the carreer you want".  If I want a career in law enforcement I don't want to have to pay for class about 17th centuary art and poetry just to graduate. I just want to pay for classes related to what I want to do.
