Author Topic: Dell Inspiron N5110 Laptop: Fan is really loud and annoying  (Read 10463 times)

Hey guys, my fan has been acting up lately, and it's annoying the hell out of me. As you all know, fans are used to keep the computer from over heating, bla bla bla, and are usually quiet. For the past few days, it has been really loud, like a bee's buzz, magnified. Driving my crazy. Every time I launch TF2 or play a YouTube video it gets really loud. Any suggestions on how to clean it? I don't to take apart the computer, just to see if there's something in the fan. I looked it up and everyone says to take apart, literally, the whole computer, screen, laptop, etc. Wtf? I don't want to do that, if there's just a simpler way I don't know about. Any good ways to clean it without taking apart the computer? I tried blowing in the fan out take area, but it didn't work.

Any suggestions?

EDIT: When I clicked "Post" it the fan immediately kicked on, nice and loud, and it's slowing down as I type this. It's off now, and it will probably kick back on when I hit "Save". -_-

Take a can of compressed air and try to blow out anything that might be wrong.

If nothing else works, you may just have to open it up, as your last resort. Wouldn't it be worth the effort?

forget no. I opened a laptop once to attempt to fix a major issue. Needless to say I don't own that laptop anymore.

Every Dell laptop I have had running Windows does this. If Linux is running, it's so much quieter.
Since you said TF2, I'm assuming you wish to play games and keep Windows. There's a chance there's a high concentration of hair between the heatsink and fan exhaust, causing the processor and video to not be cooled as efficiently as it could be. You will need to disassemble it, but Dell laptops (in comparison to some other laptop manufacturers) are surprisingly simple to disassemble.

all the ribbon cables on a toshiba laptop motherboard have no plastic end piece and are a complete bitch to deal with.

They're a bitch, yes, but they're tolerable.

My fan does this too, being in a cold room does help.

Fixed it. Tried a can of compressed air, didn't work. Went on back of the computer and pressed really hard on the fan ( I was angry ) and it stopped.

wtf :)

It might have been misaligned, and rubbing against something.

we have the same laptop.

reprisant!

I hate Dell's laptops. Their desktops are good though.

it probably got one of the wires from the fans power next to the fan and then the fan is hitting it as it spins, thats what causes my fans to get loud sometimes but I got a tower PC so I can just open it up and fix it with ease.

We almost have the same laptop. I have an N5050
