Author Topic: Why are there a bunch of lines on my screen when playing games?  (Read 1103 times)

I got a new computer screen for christmas and I instantly noticed there are a bunch of horizontal lines moving up and down on my screen when playing games.
I tried my old screen, and there are no lines on that one.
I took the screen to this computer shop place down the street and they tried the screen, but there weren't any lines.

The lines go away when I turn on V-Sync in the game I'm playing but v-sync isn't an option in a lot of games and I shouldn't have to mess around with that.

Does anyone know what these mysterious lines are all about? Is my graphics card going bad or something?

issues with the monitor settings, probably

No, it's not your graphics card going bad. It's an issue with the clock and phase of your screen. Look through your monitor's options and mess around with those settings, that should fix it.

Where can I find the monitor settings?

In Windows 7 you can right-mouse-click the desktop and go to screen resolution, then click advanced settings and a helpful little window with tabs will pop up.

The only refresh rate I can choose is 60 Hz and it says I have the latest drivers.

Does your monitor have any buttons on it, besides the on/off one?

Does your monitor have any buttons on it, besides the on/off one?
Yeah, i think i saw some buttons on it earlier today, but I can't reach my pc right now as I'm not at home.

Be sure to let us know when you get home so we can try to help.

Yeah I'm home now. When I press a button I can go trough a menu of stuff.

In the options, there's a "picture" tab with stuff like contrast, brightness and position.
There's some OSD Timeout thing in the next bat
In the next tab there's a settings menu with following options:
Wide mode
DDC/CI
AMC
Input
Language
There's also a reset button

Next tab is a bit of info about the screen.
Tell me if you want more detail on one or more options.

Might be the input.

I'd just kind of like detail on all of them.

If you got the monitor recently, contact the manufacturer.  It's very obviously defective.

Is this your computer?
nope, that's not nearly how the lines look like
They are really blurry and pretty big

Might be the input.

I'd just kind of like detail on all of them.

I would like to give more detail, but I can't screenshot the window that pops up and it only stays for a couple of seconds before i have to re-open it and find the options.
Also, I tried all the options and none of them did anything.

Doesn't Vsync fix this?
I'm an idiot, didn't read all of OP.
