Author Topic: Is it worth it to restore my old Dell Dimension 3000?  (Read 978 times)

My sister downloaded a bunch of horsestuff on it, giving it a bunch of spyware and viruses (like frostwire and limewire, which are complete shams). Because of that, I probably need to buy a new mobo, processor, and memory (and possibly a new HDD).
What

Spyware/viruses/etc aren't transferred to your mobo, processor, or memory. All you've got to do is re-format your hard drive and re-install Windows if you want to do a complete purge.

Otherwise you could also boot into safe mode and run some virus scanners and other stuff to try and get rid of the spyware.

Edit:

Woah damn, A new page in under ten minutes?

Elecros threads for you!

Also elecro, just save yourself money and buy an XP disc, boot from it and do whatever it says.

Then buy windows 7.

Yeah, but you can still get a disk. Or you can make your own. Just google "How to reinstall Windows XP".

No one ever bothered to put a antivirus software in the computer, I was going to, but then I got my computer :P

I tried to put a copy of AVG 2012 in it, but for some reason, the CD pops right out, there's no scratches on it.
