Some say he died quite horribly, some peacefully. However, all agree he did die. The once peaceful and unknown lab assistant to Ratman before he went insane, Wheatley was bound for nothing more than peaceful existence. However, GlaDOS would change all that, when she proceeded to flood the whole facility with neurotoxin. Separated from Ratman in the chaos, Wheatley quickly fell victim to the rising levels in the facility. He would've never expected what would happen next. GlaDOS decided to recreate Wheatley as her personal intern, extracting his brain and fusing it with an existing Portal Core design. He never was unveiled to Chell because he was busy working with other test subjects which GlaDOS had captured and corralled, but when Chell woke up for the second time, Wheatley was there. After his harrowing adventure with Chell, and being stranded in space, he was found by wayward human explorers who proceeded to start to tinker with his memory. In the process, they accidentally triggered his murderous side of his mentality, and forever the old peaceful Wheatley was forgotten and thus began his spree of intergalactic murders as the deadly bounty hunter Wester.
Years later, Wester was reportedly found a hermit, penniless and homesick, insane and filthy. He was quickly drafted into one of the many slave armies of the galaxy, where he, rusting portal core centered cyborg and all, fought until he was brutally ripped apart by aliens. Quickly eaten, digested, and spat out, Wheatleys life ended, and in those last moments, he shed a tear, remembering who GlaDOS really was to him, and who Chell used to be. Chell was his girlfriend. Then, he slipped into darkness.
