The ISP provides the Internet connection to the router. Anything after that is not their problem.

Our current (and previous) ISPs were pure service, you would order a box (and the cabling) from the power company, and then you'd go to a website and order the connection itself from the ISP. The one we had before that would ship you a modem, but not the router (although they later started providing routers as a subscription service). That said, the OP heavily implied that they owned the router themselves.

Well apparently my mom does know what to do. She unplugged everything, left it, then plugged it back in, and it hasn't crashed since.

It seems to crash more often when my brother is using his xbox and laptop while I use just my computer, but it can still crash when he's away.

Maybe; the router is pretty close to a heater.
