In 2050, while Conservatia destroyed a lot of the inner solar system, Earth was 'accidentally' destroyed.
Because humans thrive near planets with breathable atmospheres, people have tried to come up with terraforming technology but it would take way too long to terraform any of the remaining large bodies. Only option people have seen is to find a planet with a habitable atmosphere in another solar system.
It turns out that there is a habitable planet, although small, at Alpha Centauri. What's scary is that this is the direction that the Luna ship was going during 2042. Perhaps there are already people there?
People have developed advanced drives and set on for that star. These new speed drives allow for ships to go around half the speed of light. Finally, at 2060, the first ships have arrived from Conservatia, Republic of African Democracies, The People of Regenera, The Holy Land, and some minor countries.
