What's with the last edit warnings (Or what ever the forget they're called)

I'm just wondering about this, but sometimes when I make a big edit to my posts, it doesn't say I edited it below my post; but when I correct a spelling mistake, it shows the edit notification. Does this happen to anyone else?

If you edit a post fast enough it doesn't show it. If I had to guess, the time frame for that is a minute or two.

Editing a short time after you post doesn't cause the "last edited" line to appear below, I believe.

I believe it doesn't add the last edit tag until after the post has been posted for so long.
