Author Topic: Remote Desktop not connecting to my server computer  (Read 440 times)

God damnit, my remote desktop app won't connect to my server computer. I have to change the screen and mouse and keyboard and stuff manually if I want to do something on the server. My server is on a home network. (PS Im on windows)

Give me the IP of the server. I'll check and see if the correct ports are open for you.

Have you enabled remote assistance on your server?

ensure you put "ComputerName/Username" in the allowed user list

What?

Alright I just googled your problem and what you need to do is go to My Computer -> Uninstall or change a program -> Turn Windows features on or off -> look through the list and check 'Telnet Server'. After that give me the IP of the server and I'll quickly see if its working because your ports might not be open. Good luck!

Edit, you can find the IP of the server by googling "what is my IP" and pasting the result that google gives.

Double Edit: You'll need to restart the server

You need to restart the server after you've enabled the Telnet protocol.

You'll need to open port 22 from your router. That's one of the problems. None of ports the router your server is connected to are open so there aren't any incoming connections allowed.

since you appear to have no idea what you're doing i'm going to give you the general gist of what to do
YOU MUST HAVE THE PROFESSIONAL OR ENTERPRISE EDITION OF WINDOWS IN ORDER TO DO THIS. There are hacks to do it on Home Edition or Home Premium, but legitimately speaking, you must indeed own one of the versions above to do this.
Select "Remote settings" under Computer in Control Panel

ensure "Allow users to connect remotely to this computer" is enabled

click "select remote users"

click "add"

type "Computername\Username" for whatever user will be logged in
click ok
you're done

XP Media Center Edition definitely has this option.
