I'm pretty sure Team Rocket would have caught Pikachu had it not been for Ash being some sort of crazy magic mofo.

Ash Ketchum and friends: Ash is a boy chosen by Professor Oak to have the task of training a special Pikachu. He is often accompanied by his future-lesbian friend Misty and her black boyfriend Brock. The guyem do Pokemon stuff too. If I recall, they were both gym owners. Gyms are where Pokemon trainers see who has the biggest richard.
