Author Topic: Dual-GPU setup and CPU advice (Read 1174 times)

Hey whats up, I have a nice 3D 1080p monitor and i have a gtx680. I have two questions,i have this cpu that I got about 3 years ago almost, Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz. I'm afraid it is affecting my performance on certain games sometimes.Should i get another Nvidia gpu or a new cpu...the cpu(if it turns out it is the problem) I thought about getting is a Intel Core i7-3820 Sandy Bridge-E 3.6GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost) $300 and if I decided not to get a new cpu and get a new gpu instead should it be a gtx670 $400...because honestly a 680 is loving expensive and i cant afford another one of those lol.I only got a gtx680 because it was on sale and a gtx670 is at worst about 10 fps lower(on average it is around 5) and its around 100 dollars cheaper...so which should i get?Another gpu or new cpu?Thanks :)

you should get a newer generation CPU. don't use the old one you bought.

reasons: GTX680 handles pretty much anything on ultra. some games do not handle SLI well. the new CPU would benefit you a lot too.

i don't really think that cpu is really the problem
and even if you do upgrade to the i7-3820, you are going to have to buy a new motherboard with the LGA 2011 socket

i would not even suggest an LGA 2011 board and cpu's
they are so loving expensive
i would wait 'till june when the new Haswell line of CPU's come out, and then buy a new mobo/cpu combo
