what you're forgetting is that for those of us born in america, we're used to our own system
the metric system is totally wack for us, just as your date system is.

I love the metric system and wish we'd just get rid of the English system as soon as possible
Also your logic is ass-backwards
There are as many metres to a kilometre as there are grams to a kilogram, or millimetres to a metre.
As for the English system, there are 12 inches to a foot but there aren't 12 feet to a mile. There are 5280 feet to a mile. 1760 yards to a mile at 3 feet per yard. The numbers simply don't match like the metric system, even if we are used to it.
