So uh, what program would you guys recommend to start out with?

If you want to spend money on a good program, use autodesk inventor, then transfer the files to .obj so they can be viewed in blender. I find blender more difficult to us.

Blender all the waaaayyyyy

milkshape is good to start out with but costs money, and blender may be too advanced for beginners.

there is a difference between paying 20 bucks or less, vs 100+ for a program.
dont dismiss something just because it costs money. not everything thats free can be as good.

Blender is very good though

i use google sketchup to model, and then i import them into blender and do the rest there

Google Sketchup is extremely easy to use. It's a perfect program to start out with if you're a beginner. You'll need milkshape or blender to import objects to though.

Blender is pretty great, it might be a little too advanced for beginners but you'll get the hang of it eventually

Milkshape is great (what I use).

Get it if you got the coin 25 dollars

Use Blender.

This, it's just a better program overall, and best to learn to use well (over alternative milkshape). Oh yeah, it's also free.
