Author Topic: Skype video messaging is free.  (Read 683 times)

Skype on my iPhone updated today and something in the changelog was "Video calling is now free and unlimited"
is it any different than how it already worked on the PC?
bc iirc one-on-one video calling was always free, but if you wanted more people in calls you'd have to pay
so what I don't know is if that had previously not been free on mobiles, but they added it, or if video calling is entirely free now

One-on-one video calls have always been "free and unlimited" on all devices. I can't imagine they made group video calling free.

why else would it say that

if nothing changed

One time roughly a year ago a friend of mine invited me to a group call and everybody was video chatting, but I tried doing it just this past week and it says it requires a subscription.

tryin to grab attention this way i think

To do a group video call the one hosting it has to be a Skype Premium Member, But you can do a one on one for free.

"- Video messaging..." not calling?

edit; as in, sending recorded video messages

i believe if the person hosting the call is a subscriber everyone can video chat, i'm not 100% sure but i dunno
so you might have joined a call where the host had subscribed

Yep, this is correct.

That was something I noticed if you call someone and they don't answer, it asks you if you would like to send a video message. I didn't even know you could video message, when it charged you atleast.

I think this is what that update means

Video Messaging is those video messages you can leave someone, it's not the live chat.

I didn't even know Skype had that
