They actually technically did that, just using huge-ass blimp-like balloons called barrage balloons.



They where tied down with a net of steel cables to add further obstacles.



these were much better Luftwaffe repellent.


Saw one of these at an airshow yesterday. Beautiful noise for an old plane.
