Author Topic: Looking for a better processor and GPU for Christmas  (Read 1693 times)

Here are my specs to the best of my knowledge:

Quote
Case: CA-ST830BS Black Mid tower case

GPU: ATI Radeon HD 6850

PSU: 600W OKIA ATXE (it also says something about a 400w supertalent PSU, but I think that came with the case before it was removed for the OKIA, not too sure though)

Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-880GA-UD3H

Processor: AMD Phenom II X2 560 3.3 GHz

RAM: 2x2GB Supertalent DDR3-1600

My processor is a fast dual core, but a lot of games nowadays are recommending quad-core. So basically, a better processor is my primary concern, a better GPU is my secondary concern. I want a reasonable proce range, I don't want to spend more than a few hundred bucks (try to keep it less than 500$?). I will replace my PSU if it's needed for a considerable upgrade as long as it's not too pricey. If any more information is needed, I will provide it to the best of my knowledge. Thanks guys

A cheap quad-core and an expensive GPU is what you need.

An AMD-FX probably, then spend 300 on a GPU, maybe an HD 7870 or something. And get a better PSU, that brand sounds digusting.

Any PSU suggestions? Also what would be the optimal wattage to have for the suggested upgrades?

700 watts.
Brands like Corsair, Coolermaster, SeaSonic, XFX, Antec ect

seasonic master race

In my opinion I don't think you should get a FX processor. Not only might it not be compatible with your motherboard socket, but they're a lot slower than the phenom II in terms of their architecture. You could order a hexacore phenom II for about $150 from microcenter, or look on ebay for a better price.

Edit: Looked up your motherboard, you would have to replace it completely if you wanted to use anything other than an Anthlon II, Phenom II, or Sempron 100 processor (Phenom II is the certain best of those)
