guys they're going to try to make the show like mlp but only in the same style
most likely meaning similar art style, use of literary devices and techniques (yes like a loving book), production elements, etc.
i can't really think of a tv example to compare it to but i guess like the relationship between Jimmy Neutron and Planet Sheen- similar production style and humor but different characters (ignore that Sheen was in Jimmy Neutron's show)
