Last time I checked the amount, it was around 80,000. Now it dropped down to 40,000.

all the spam accounts are being removed hopefully
next registration will require a key, I really hope

The maintenance might've been partially to clean up inactive/spam accounts.

maybe the user list was being spammed by bots all day to collect emails.
