Author Topic: Heatsink and HDD Question  (Read 727 times)

Can't get anyone to loving respond on the computer megathread.

First of all, i'm getting a replacement for my Western Digital 1TB Caviar Black because it has been making noises lately which are indefinably not a good thing. (High pitched squealing that I never heard, small amounts of scratching, etc.

How would I put the contents from my 1TB onto the new 1TB with it thinking it is the same Hard Drive? Most of my programs are on this drive.

Whats the best heatsink for my Intel Core i5 3470 @ 3.20GHz(Might get a i7, if that makes a difference.? My budget is around $60.

This was the one I was looking at, just wanted other opinions on coolers.

i am pretty sure your files wont give a forget about what hard drive they're on, just copy everything from 1 to another and bam

As long as you copy all the files over with identical folder structure and the give it the same drive letter, your programs should still work fine.

get that cooler, i have a hyper 212 plus, which is fine. but my friend has the EVO and its really good

also you'll have to reinstall your OS, but personal files and things can be backed up and moved onto the new one without a problem

As the 2 above say, it should work. (excluding pacha)
Also, OP. I feel your pain.

I don't think he means his boot drive. I'm guessing the drive he's replacing is just an extra drive where he keeps programs installed.

I have my OS on a 120GB SSD, probably should have added that in OP.

And yea, my moms computer I built her (i7 3770K, Runs OSX because she hates windowscoughmetoocough) and I got her that heatsink. Works well, so the 212 EVO is what i'll go with then.

you could use a drive duplicator tool to get everything on one drive to another
hyper 212 is possibly one of the best air coolers you can get

if you have the money i prefer liquid cooled

if you have the money i prefer liquid cooled
liquid cooling is overrated
