the drastic changes from 6 years ago made a new norm for life today.  in order to bring a new norm (or restore the better, old norm), you need drastic change again.

the 1800s were 200 years ago btw.  even then those policies clearly didn't even last long once our involvement in WWI began.  we've been a world leader since the end of WWII.
