Author Topic: What happened to custom shaders?  (Read 1485 times)

when shadows&shaders finally came out komp said we could make custom shaders for it
but only like, one guy made any custom shaders for it and they don't work anymore

I would like to see more custom shaders, but they look much more complicated to make

you talkin about that "LSD shader" thingy?

You can write custom shaders.

You can write custom shaders.
just no one has bothered to make one yet

What can you make different if you were to write your own shaders thing? Would you be able to sort of make the sun closer/farther away (making the shadows longer/shorter but in the same area)?

That makes no sense. You mean adjust the sun elevation with the environment control GUI?

I don't think you can do that, you can only adjust the length of shadows with the time of day meaning the shadows can only be very long when the sun is close to setting, where as I was thinking with custom shaders you could be able to control how shadows get longer and shorter, I thought this was something fixed in with the daytime cycle/current shaders.

You can do everything that the shader does... colors, shape modifications, shadow modifications
but you better be an expert of the language that the shaders use

I'm not sure I understand what a custom shader would actually be.

I still don't understand what you're talking about. Moving the sun closer the origin of the world does not make the shadows longer. In fact it would not change anything at all.

The environment GUI has a slider for sun elevation. Changing that moves the sun up/down on the sky making the shadows shorter/longer like in real life.

Things like bloom, motion blur, "cartoon shaders", etc.
