What I noticed about lego is they stopped selling packs of bricks and just big sets of the bricks, and started selling sets only based of various movies and such. So it's not so much about creative now as it is advertising the latest movie.
just because the package says to build a specific city doesn't mean you actually have to
the only time i feel obligated to build what the package says is when it's a vehicle. otherwise, you can just make what you want.

What happened to the standard smiley face anyway? The only face I see is the angry face, plus the sets seem to use fewer and bricks. Basically You get a few big pieces and one or two small ones and a minifig. The big buckets of bricks have also vanished lately. It's like they aren't a building toy anymore and rather a build your own playset.
"LEGO - Build your own bricks to make your own playset!"

The "Friends" series was a huge mistake.

That just completely divided the LEGO market. "This version is for boys, and this version is for girls."

Same bullstuff happened with Nerf guns. They released this "Rebelle" line, which is specifically for young females.

Let's forget aesthetics for a moment. What's really happening? The two toy companies, LEGO and Hasbro are taking their brands and instead of adding certain elements like, say, maybe throwing a young girl into their commercials along with the males, to show that they can play alongside the boys too, they put a fork in the road and tell each gender to take their separate paths.

That's not helping. That's splitting people up.

That doesn't create unity between people. It creates diversity, and allows room for adversity in the future, because the children were growing up with the idea that "Well, boys are supposed to do certain things and girls are only allowed to do certain other things," or vice versa.
