Here are some starter tips:

•	Never be afraid to use a wide variety of bricks.  I started on the road to being a good builder when I began experimenting with 13+ kinds of bricks in a single building (although with duplicated features).
•	Define perspective.  For example, if you want to build a hallway, 3-4 bricks wide by 5 bricks high is possible, but it's not comfortable.
•	Never be afraid to take up a lot of room, but don't leave a lot of empty space.
•	Define mood.  An important element in your build is mood.  This is illustrated my bricks used, the variety of bricks used, the size of the bricks used, the color and variety of color of the bricks, and if you can adjust it, the environments.  The perfect dynamic lighting can make a build.  If you want creepy, use dark grey-brown lighting and dark fog, if you want happy, use sunshine and light brightly with off-white tones.  Visible distance would generally be far.
•	Find someone to help you.  This may be a difficult search, but having someone who will help you improve and give you constructive criticism.
•	Always be willing to listen to constructive criticism.  People are usually trying to help your stuff look better.  Their opinion matters.

join a project themed server and build something. use ideas from other things there but still try to do your own style of it.

To be a better builder, you must learn from the good builders. If it's your first good build, don't post it because people could put you down. Keep building till your confident to release it. You should always practice or get some lessons from a good builder you know. You could always go to gallery to learn from them. I recommend looking at pictures of what your going to build before building in blockland. Try posting some pictures of your latest build in this topic, let people get your opinions and learn from it.

Every time you're gonna build something, just think about how you can make it less boring than the usual player.
You don't have to be perfect at building, people will think you're good as long as you can build things in more interesting ways than the stuff that you can find on a normal freebuild server.
