Author Topic: How to setup Wii Linux?  (Read 621 times)

So I have a softmodded Wii I use for homebrew and such, however I've always wanted to have Linux. But I don't want to do it on my computer, as I like to stay on one OS, and I'm dumb founded about dual boots and virtual machines.

Also, my SD card is very, very, VERY small. I would prefer to do it on something like a external hard drive. The SD card is only 2 GB, while the external is 2 TB.

This is what I'm trying to use, and I don't know how to follow it.

Could some Linux expert or someone who knows how to do this help me? Because this really seems like it would be nice to use, like Ubuntu on Linux.

Thanks for the help if I do get some.

I dont even understand what you're saying
Are you saying you want to install ubuntu on wii?

I dont even understand what you're saying

You can install Linux on your Wii if you have a softmod and the right equipment.

I'm asking how do I install the program, because I don't know how Linux works at all or the process of setting it up on a Wii using the homebrew provided.

and I'm dumb founded about dual boots and virtual machines.
Learn about them then.
It's far easier than putting an OS on something that's not made for it.
Plus there's a ton more people that can help you with it.

You'd do better talking to an actual homebrew community, like the folks down at GBAtemp, instead of the Blockland Forum.

im pretty sure its illegal to softmod some of the recent game systems

And what makes you think that? Sure it can void your warranty, but it's not illegal.

You're forcing unsigned code to be loaded after a buffer overflow occurs through the process of save hacking. This is the exact same method that was used to softmod the Xbox, as well as most other consoles. The thing that made it easier to softmod the Wii was the addition of an SD card slot, which got rid of needing Action Replay or some other cheating device. Nintendo literally begged for it to happen by not forcing the SD card to a specialized filesystem. It voids your warranty, but is not illegal unless you're pirating software for it.

I actually didn't hack using a save.
There's more up to date versions that don't require a game.

Specifically this softmod hack.

That's still hacking through a form of save file. It's not through a game, but it is still a hacked save.
