Author Topic: how do i use a USB 2.0 flash drive, on my old etower  (Read 565 times)

i have an old etower 400i3 and i would like to transfer some files on to it. this computer cant read USB 2.0 flash drives, so i was wondering if there is a way i could make it read them. the computer has no internet connection.

Floppy disk
i might have to. only i dont own any floppy disk and i would have to buy a floppy drive for the other computer

Do you mean that it only has support for USB 1.1, or does it simply not detect your flash drive? Because the USB standard is backwards-compatible both ways, meaning that new devices will work in old ports (and vice versa), although the speed will obviously be limited to what the older part can handle.
If you can't read the drive at all, burn the files onto a CD and transfer them from that.

it detects the flash drive, but i cant access it, it wants me install new hardware

why do you still have an old garbage pc?

why do you still have an old garbage pc?
because i never throw anything away

I can understand transferring files from it, but why onto it?
Are you going to use it to host a blockland server?

no. i use it to wright stuff.

It has Windows 98 installed, I suppose? There are actually community-made USB flash drive drivers on the 'net, but to install them you obviously need a way to transfer them, which you don't have.
I still think your best bet is to use a CD burner. Most CD drives made in the latter half of the 90's should be able to read writeable CD's.
There may also be a way to directly connect two computers via an Ethernet cable, but I have no clue how or if that works.

if you could link me to one of those community made drivers i could burn it to a cd and transfer it that way. yup windows 98
