Author Topic: Linux is SERIOUSLY making me want to beat it's developer up  (Read 1939 times)

Specs, in case you're wondering:
-Gateway M-6309
-32-bit
-Laptop
-used to be windows vista home premium

Also, taboo, can you just leave us alone? We are trying to discuss something and you're just dismissing us on it and posting your opinion, which doesn't really help here.
run this in a terminal (should be in your applications menu somewhere, probably under "utilities") by typing it in and pressing enter
sudo apt-get install xfce4 htop

when that process finishes ( you might have to press the y key to accept the installation ) run htop
note how it  has four multicolored bars along the top
post how much of the "mem" bar is taken up by green lines (eg; "approximately 50%"), as well as the numbers at the end (like 500/1000MB)
ignore the blue lines and yellow lines, forget if i know what they mean
just close the window with the x in the corner, or press the q key and run exit at the prompt

then, log out. when you log in, you should have the option to choose from a dropdown a number of things. the one currently selected should be "gnome" or gnome3 or something. change that dropdown to xfce and sign in

it'll look like stuff but it should be a lot faster.
open another terminal, run htop again, post the same mem stuff. particularly note if it's a lot lower.

oh, and linux isn't very handy at gaming yet. valve is working towards it, but it's kinda slow going. if anyone told you otherwise, tell them they're an starfish
