I just got mine off two months ago, and now I only have to wear a retainer at night. luckily for me, I only had them on for a little more than a year and a half. I know someone who had them for 3 years, then a retainer, and then something went wrong and he had to wear them again for another 2 years. Or maybe it was 4 and 1.

Wow OP you must have had a stuff orthodontist. I've had mine since June, get mine off in a year and 9 months (from June, so a year and like 4 months) only had 1 bracket come loose, no poking wires, it's all good actually. Oh and tightening is a pain in the ass. It's like having a toothache on every one of your loving teeth.

out of all the times i've had my braces tightened in the past year or so i've had them hurt like once, they hurt all the time for the first year but after that it was fine

that is lucky, I have a have a permanent retainer on my bottom row and a retainer at night for when I get my braces off.

I don't see the problem here. I have had permanent top and bottom retainers 4th grade- 6th grade (With that big metal plate thingy to keep your tounge back), braces from 6th grade to the middle/ towards the end of 9th grade, and now I will have invisiline as my retainers for the next 2ish years.
