as i was driving home i saw these big flashes and then the entire neighborhood was just dark
Happened to me a while ago. My brother and I were babysitting my sisters at home and the lights flickered and went black. Excellent time too, as it was just getting dark and we hadn't taken showers yet (when you live on a well, you have no running water when the power goes out).
My parents got home saying they saw what happened. While they were driving, the transformers on the power poles were exploding one by one, with flashes as bright as lightning striking by the car. Power didn't come on until like 2am, when I woke up in bed with the whole basement lit up...
