Author Topic: Celestia - Map of the Milky Way  (Read 748 times)

So I found out about this while watching Vsauce.  It's Basically an extremely detailed map of the milky way and it shows some of our nearby galaxies, like Andromeda.  You can also set  it to outline constellations and zoom out to see what they look like at different angles.  In addidtion to that its loving animated in real time. so whereever any of the stuff is in the map, thats where it is in the universe.

forget yes

I like to look at this while listening to Allegri - Misrere Mei Deus

Like Celestia, only the entire universe down to the surface of planet level of detail.

oh that
celestia

I use it a lot, I know I once found these 2 galaxies colliding and I still have a picture of it.

Well forget.

Well forget.

Not to take anything away from Celestia, cause it does have cool stuff like constellation mapping, but space engine is just beyond insane.

It's gonna be on Steam too, and the devs have some pretty ambitious, but exciting things planned for it.

oh my god Space Engine looks like my dream.

Does Space Engine have anything like constellation mapping?  Even if it doesn't it still looks awesome.  I'm DLing it now.

Not sure. It's been over a year since I used it last due to a less-that-functional laptop, and it didn't have any of that that I knew of at the time.

I wish our technology was advanced enough so we could visit this stuff
